Here we have a freshly overhauled 7 1/4" gauge 'Jessie' to Ken Swan's well respected design. Jessie is the 0-4-0 saddle tank version of the far more commonly modeled 'Bridget' 0-4-2 side tank design. The drawings are well detailed and well thought out, and as a result most of the locos that we see built to the drawings tend to be neatly machined and crisply engineered models. This example is no exception.
The boiler is the usual silver soldered copper one and appears very neatly made as well. It comes of course with a full 4 twice working pressure hydraulic test as well as a fresh annual steam test to everything is tested and working as it should be.
There is an injector fitted, with a neat little bracketed lever to operate the water flow, as well as an axle pump with a footplate mounted bypass valve. Lubrication is mechanical with the reservoir and dip stick mounted under the front running boards. There's some really nice detailing in the valve gear, with castleated nuts and a good degree of finesse in the machining, and the sand box and oil pot detailing really finishes the model off nicely. I really good starter loco for 7 1/4" gauge.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
